I’ve been thinking a lot about what kind of support actually moves the needle when you’re building a business and a life you love. I’d love to know where you’re at right now:

What kind of support do you need right now?

Entrepreneurship is honestly such a crazy concept.

& it’s even crazier to think about the people you know who have chosen to become entrepreneurs vs the people who haven’t.

There is no question about it, it’s not everyone. But for the people who do choose to go this route with their careers, it’s a gratifying experience. Of course, an incredibly gratifying experience that is brought to you after years of struggles and constant questioning yourself but gratifying nonetheless.

I used to think one of the best things about being an entrepreneur was not having to answer to anyone, There is no boss telling me I have to do x, y, or z - I am held to no deadlines, and I can literally do whatever I want whenever I want.

That was all fun and games for about two years.

See, after that two-year mark people usually find themselves at this point in their career where they are faced with the question of, Do I grow, and If so what does that look like?

Meaning: Do you hire a team? Is it time to start outsourcing? Are paid ads for me, or do I need to focus on growing other platforms? ( now, some of these questions can change based on what your particular field is, but for generic purposes let’s keep these examples as being someone who owns a small business where Social Media is their main marketing)

Now, in my experience both personally and as an educator for other women entrepreneurs I have found that these lingering growth questions aren’t things that the individual feels are necessary, instead it’s more of an industry standard to start thinking about these questions, however, while yes, they are important, they aren’t truly the ones that matter at this point.

See without having answers to questions about yourself, your life, and what you want that to look like then you can never truly answer those questions in a way that is beneficial for your business.

I’ve seen so many entrepreneurs grow their businesses because they are being told that it is the right thing to do at this 18-month to 2-year mark, and I won’t lie it does work for a brief moment in time; They make more money, they grow brand awareness, they have a full team of contractors in which they employ, and they may even be able to claim they have bought their dream home, made 7 figures or whatever else.

But the truth is, with growth like that, that’s mainly focused on your business, you’ve stopped focusing on the growth of something else, something much bigger, which is yourself, your life and your desires.

& after all, isn’t that the way you started your business?

To do what you want to, when you want to, and to not have to answer to anyone?

When we stop focusing on our own personal growth and instead focus solely on business growth we start to experience things like burnout, decision paralysis, self-doubt, and overall generalized unhappiness.

You can have everything you want and could have achieved all your goals in your business, made amounts of money you didn’t know were possible, and worked with your dream clients, and yet have no idea why you feel unfulfilled, lack clarity, feel unmotivated, or excited about parts of your day to day life.

& this happens because you lost sight of you.

Entrepreneurship is hard because it requires balance.

Not so much work-life balance, that’s the easy stuff, we can sit down make a schedule plan out a routine, and hold ourselves accountable to it, because we can see WHY its important to do.

Entrepreneurship requires more a of Personal & Business growth balance.

Again, in my experience I haven’t found a ton of content on this, I haven’t seen educators talk about this too much, and I sure as hell have not found an example of this in Pinterest.

So if you’ve made it this far, let these three questions be your routine or guide to help you with finding balance in your entrepreneurship journey.

What are my biggest business accomplishments lately, How do they make me feel personally? ( write out what feelings you have about accomplishing those achievements and what thoughts you have about them)

If I could accomplish my biggest dream/goal in the next 6 months, what do I think my day-to-day life look like after accomplishing it?

Is that vision of what my day to day life would look like in alignment with what I currently want - Meaning does it support the goals I have for my personal life, relationships, and self-growth.

Ask yourself these questions twice a year minimum as a little check-in with yourself.

These questions can be a tool and guide for you to remember to also put personal goals in the forefront of your business planning in order to ensure you are making time for the things that you want right now, instead of saying “ I will do ____ after accomplishing ____ in my business”

How to find balance as an entrepreneur?

I just didn’t know it be this kind of history.

As a military household this is such a wild time for my husband and I to be witnessing.

Half our friends think we’re Republican and half think we’re democrats, In this moment of our careers we’ve found it better to let others determine their perceptions of us, and discuss our views if they are brought up or we get asked about them.

I started my career as a photographer, him always military. His driving force was create a safe environment for his family to thrive in, mine was to document history. little moments that will never be again

It’s crazy to think the contributions he’s had to the history being made on levels I’ll never truly know. And it’s crazy to think I almost stopped documenting it, due to being caught up in the hustle of entrepreneurship and trying to fulfill the “American dream” - you know married by x - age, motherhood to follow, but only after climbing the rungs of my career and accomplishing a huge goal to then stay home and embrace the beauty of motherhood. All while supporting my husband as he allows me to take this time to focus on the family.

If you’re a creative, please don’t stop creating right now. Now more than ever we need creators. Story tellers. Thinkers.

Story tellers of every day moments and conversations.

Documenters of life, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

That’s what will help create change. Immediate in your community change. That will help you and others daily.

CEO’s, Thought Leaders and Authors will all come from first focusing on creating, story telling and documenting.

I always knew I’d document history

It might not seem like a big deal, but deciding to add color back into my wardrobe. Huge deal.

Growing up, I was all about bold, fun, borderline “does that even match” type of outfits (RIP Delia’s, you’re missed every day). So how did I go from Fab to Drab?

Well, in 2014 I moved to the Seattle area, only to feel like a sore thumb at the first public outing I had when I realized I was in pink velvet pants and a blue striped shirt, and everyone else was in the signature blue jeans, sweater, and Blundstone oh and infinity scarves, I think they were big back then.

At that same time, I also entered a relationship that would later end in divorce after years of miscommunication on expectations, a near-death ectopic miscarriage, and the humbling realization that I no longer knew who I was or looked like myself.

When you factor all that in, it’s no surprise my wardrobe went from a colorful creative time stamp of who I once was to a bland neutral and black reality of “target must haves” for the butting woman entrepreneur. ( I forgot to mention I was also a full-time wedding photographer at this time, so anything black was my work uniform)

It took time (and a lot of reflection), but I finally realized that wearing color isn’t just about fashion—it’s about being seen.

You show up boldly without saying a word.

You start to break the fear of standing out or being judged. Here’s the truth: I wasn’t just dressing “neutral.” I was blending in. Hiding. Making myself smaller.

After experiencing my first miscarriage, I struggled to love my body.

For years, I hid it in darker colors and trendy neutral tones, hoping I could blend in and avoid standing out. I didn’t want anyone to see me. Many times, I’d find myself in tears, frustrated at how my body kept changing—yet I had no baby to show for it. I loved myself, but I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin.

“What if someone saw me?” That question haunted me. And it wasn’t just about my body. It was about the mental and emotional toll of everything I’d been through—an unhealthy marriage, a divorce, miscarriages, and the constant struggle to feel “enough” as a woman in my 20s and 30s.

I thought hiding in darker tones would somehow protect me. But really, it just made me feel smaller, duller, and more disconnected from who I wanted to be.

While going through my divorce, I would find myself scrolling through Instagram, seeing women in bold, colorful outfits. And every time, I thought, “Ugh, I wish I could pull that off.” But then it hit me: Why can’t I?

So, I bought one bright piece. Then another. And you know what I realized

Color helped my confidence. Even when I wasn’t feeling 100% sure of myself, putting on something bold said, “I’m here, and I’m not hiding anymore.”

It’s okay to be seen. Wearing color felt like a rebellious act—a way of saying, “I deserve to take up space.”

It boosts my mood/creativity. Trust me, after everything I’ve been through, incorporating color into my wardrobe and my life gave me a much-needed dopamine boost. It didn’t fix everything, but it made showing up for myself a little easier.

For me, choosing color again was part of rediscovering who I am after divorce, miscarriage, and navigating life in my 30s. Wearing color isn’t just a style choice—it’s an act of rebellion. It says, “I deserve to be seen.”
